Bookworm Project

Third Grade Bookworms

This is the year!  Many elementary students look forward to entering third grade just to participate in the Bookworms project.  Former third grade teacher, Ms. Joey Vaughan implemented the third grade Bookworms program for this grade level which basically encourages each child to read at least 100 books, and as a reward, they will go out for a ride in the limo and eat lunch at a restaurant.  It has been a huge success because it works well for the students, and they would have something to really look forward to. The bookworms program was designed for our students, with the purpose being to develop an intrinsic motivation to read.

Each student is required to read at least 100 books between now and mid-May.  A blank list is attached that will serve as documentation purposes.  The students need to complete this list independently for the portions pertaining to the title of the book they have read and the date they read it.  They also need to obtain an adult’s initials, verifying that they indeed read the book.  All of the students who meet this goal will be invited to attend our Bookworms field trip, and it will be quite extravagant!

This program is funded by contributions from members of our community and the Sertoma Club.  So special thanks goes out to their continued support to TSD and our Bookworms project.

Please try to read with your child as much as possible, and let them catch you with an open book, magazine, or newspaper!  We are looking forward to 100% participation in the Bookworms program for the 10th year running, and thank you, in advance, for supporting your child’s efforts to read as much as possible.

****parents/guardians need to sign the book log with a signature and the title of the book.  The form should be kept in the communication log so that we can keep up with how many books each student has read. ****
